Roaches – Creating an Extinct Environment

Roaches – Creating an Extinct Environment

I’ve been dealing with roaches slowly infesting my home for about a few months now and it had me losing my mind. I thought to myself “why are there roaches in my home when all I do is clean around the clock?”. I’ve gotten to the point where I decided to get help from a professional, and so I made an appointment to have an Exterminator come out and exterminate the roaches that were trying to claim my home as their own.

♥ Exterminate: To get rid of completely usually by killing off. »Merriam-Webster Dictionary

To solve any issue you must first learn as much as you can about the problem so you can then come up with the best possible solution. I asked my Exterminator a few questions before she got started because it was my first time receiving this type of service. I wanted to know what I needed to do to prepare the area for service, what results I would expect, how long I should wait before putting things back, how to keep pets and small children safe, and preventative measures to take to maintain a pest free home.

During our conversation I’ve learned so much about roaches that will help me and maybe you in creating an extinct environment free of roaches (or extremely close to it).

Did You Know….

  • Roaches are attracted to water that’s why you tend to find them in the kitchen and bathrooms.
  • Roaches are drawn to electrical currents that travel through the cable wires that may be anchored to walls during a cable installation. The same goes for microwaves, electrical outlets, light fixtures, and other electrical appliances.
  • The poop that is left behind by the roaches (brownish colored speckles) contain pheromones and if not cleaned away, they can find their way back to that particular location.

♥ Pheromones: a chemical substance that is usually produced by an animal and serves especially as a stimulus to other individuals of the same species for one or more behavioral responses. »Merriam-Webster Dictionary

  • If the remains of  dead roaches aren’t cleaned away, the roaches that are still alive will eat them for protein. (eww right? lml)

♥ Tips:

  1. After vacuuming/sweeping away the dead roaches, wipe down surfaces with a mixture of bleach and water killing not only germs but the pheromones that are left behind in the poop.
  2. Make a follow-up appointment for another extermination a week later to kill off any remaining roaches that may have not been exposed to the previous dose of pesticide.
  3. Control the reoccurrence of roaches with store-bought pesticides such as Raid Max® which can keep killing for up to 6 months.
  4. Remember to clean away roach poop and roach remains as soon as you notice them to prevent them from coming back. Popular areas from my personal experience are door frames & hinges, medicine cabinets, light fixtures, and carbon dioxide/smoke detectors.

With this new-found knowledge of roaches, I and even you can now take the necessary steps to properly clean and maintain a home that will one day be free from roaches (or extremely close to

The Real – Crack That Hangover!

The Real – Crack That Hangover!

REAL Teaser: Crack That Hangover

Today Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 I watched one of my favorite daytime talk shows, The Real. One of the segments on the show was called “Crack That Hangover”, and not only was it informative but it was hilarious as all hell. During the segment each co-host would tell you a myth of what people would perceive to be true about avoiding hangovers when consuming alcohol, then they would take a breakable liquor bottle and crack the co-host that sat to the left of them over the head stating that they were “shattering the myth”.

Tamera Mowry-Housley was the first to crack a bottle over her unsuspecting co-host, Jeannie Mai’s head. Jeannie was in shock when she was struck by the bottle shouting “oh my God Tamera, oh my God…you could’ve warned me first…that hurt” all with a smile on her face. Jeannie then had her turn with celebrity guest host, Evelyn Lozada from Basketball Wives L.A.. Evelyn sat there and took Jeannie’s bottle to the head with stride. Before Evelyn would state her myth to be shattered with the breaking of a bottle, she felt the need to apologize to Loni Love who was next in line. Loni took her head bashing from Evelyn like a pro but you couldn’t say that about her fellow co-host, Adrienne Houghton. During the entire time that Loni was informing us of a myth, she was holding Adrienne by the arm making sure she didn’t evade the situation. Adrienne covers her face, ducks down low, and fluffs her ponytail for the impact when Loni cracks Adrienne over the head; the pain must’ve been all in her head as she popped up as if nothing happened.

The finale and most hilarious part of the entire segment was when Adrienne had to take her turn at cracking her co-host Tamera over the head with a liquor bottle. Adrienne reaches for her breakable bottle after stating her myth alerting Tamera to get up from her seat and duck underneath the table. Adrienne makes her way towards Tamera and Tamera makes a break for it; booking it around the table. Loni grabs Tamera by the arm as she passes and holds her in place till Adrienne gets to her. Adrienne goes in for the kill and guess what?…the breakable liquor bottle fails to break and Adrienne is shocked thinking she has hurt Tamera…lml. Loni then snatches the unbreakable-breakable liquor bottle from Adrienne’s hands and successfully cracks it over Tamera’s head with the look on her face like “that’s how you do it!”…lmao.

This was absolutely the best episode yet. This segment reminded me of how a group of close girlfriends would act; very playful and real.

Getting Kids To Eat Boiled Egg Yolks

Getting Kids To Eat Boiled Egg Yolks

For my morning breakfast I typically enjoy boiled eggs with smoked beef or turkey sausages and either toast or waffles. I was addicted for about a week straight of eating boiled eggs whether it was with sides or by itself; it was bomb for some reason.

My 1 year-old is attached to my hip so when I make anything to eat it’s for the both of us. My child would eat the sausages, waffles/toast, and the egg whites. When I would offer him the egg yolks to eat he would chew twice, spit out the dry egg yolks, and then down the contents of his Sippy cup. I wanted my child to reap the benefits of eating the yolks of eggs and so I had to figure out a way to get him to eat them without spitting them out.

♥ According to “Each egg yolk contains seven vitamins….of those, vitamins A, D, E and K are found only in egg yolks and not in egg whites. In fact, egg yolks are one of only a handful of foods in which vitamin D is naturally found.”

Here is how I got my child to eat boiled egg yolks…

I boiled 2 eggs and waited for them to cool before cracking and peeling them. I cut each egg in half, removing the egg yolks and setting them aside for later use. I then cut the egg whites into 4 quarters and sprinkled a bit of salt & pepper to taste.

I decided to turn the dry egg yolks into a spread or dip using ingredients that are typically found in the recipes of Deviled Eggs. I used Ground Paprika, Sweet Relish, and Mayonnaise as my mix-ins to make the egg yolks more appetizing to my little one.

In a bowl, I mashed the egg yolks with a fork and then mixed in, one at a time, a small amount of the mayonnaise, relish, and paprika.

Once everything is thoroughly mixed together, I placed the dip/spread in a bowl along with the seasoned egg whites and Bon Appétit!

My child now devours the egg yolks being that they are no longer dry and I don’t even think he realizes
